& Net Castle Kit $45.99 (Nursery comes with 5-8 Live larvae when purchased with the Net Castle) *All Kits available with Certificate for Larvae OR Live Larvae. |
AFTER the chrysalis has been formed and "hardened off" for 2-3 days... 1. Separate Butterfly Nursery halves & carefully remove any webbing (silk) that may be attached to the chrysalises. The chrysalises will then be free-hanging on the sides of the nursery. 2. Put the nursery halves into the Net Castle. 3. Lightly mist chrysalises, daily, if possible. Butterflies emerge!! The doily can be removed after all the butterflies have emerged. 4. Put round, plastic mesh into the clear feeding dish. Fill 2/3 with 10% sugar water solution or Gatorade and place in the center of the net. Butterflies will begin to feed a day or so after emerging. It helps to turn the plastic mesh over a few times in the sugar solution or Gatorade to stimulate feeding. Change solution every other day or so. 5. Mist butterflies daily, if possible. NOTE: If any chrysalises become detached from the side or if any form in the food dish, simply remove the silk webbing on them and place on the doily in the Net Castle. --Chrysalises that are formed on the nursery cap net can be left on the piece of net and put in the Net Castle OR carefully removed from the piece of net and gently placed on the doily. --It isn't necessary for the chrysalises to be "hanging" for a successful emergence. --Newly emerged Painted Lady butterflies will secrete a red substance (merconium) out of the tail end. This is not blood, it is a fluid that is left over from their wing formation.
